Carnival Opens it's 3rd Pier at Puerto Maya, Cozumel

With the arrival of three ships at once, Carnival Corp. opened the third berth at its Puerta Maya port in Cozumel, Mexico.

The Carnival Breeze, Freedom and Triumph docked together, taking advantage of the new $20 million arm that was added to the existing pier. Plans for the expansion have been ten years in the making.

“Cozumel is the Caribbean’s most visited cruise ship destination and consistently receives high ratings from our guests,” said Giora Israel, Carnival Corp.'s senior vice president of global port and destination development. “So the destination is in demand by our guests.”

In 2014, about 1.5 million guests visited Puerta Maya on 25 different ships across six of Carnival Corp.'s brands.

Puerta Maya, one of three cruise terminals in Cozumel, is owned by Carnival Corp. Its pier was rebuilt after being destroyed by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. All three berths are designed to withstand a Category 5 hurricane, Carnival said.
