P&O's Azura Arrived in Southampton for Dazzling Naming Ceremony

Azura has arrived! Cruise fans watched from a series of vantage points to view P&O Cruises' 116,000-ton, 3,080-passenger new-build sail into Southampton.

The ship was docked at the port's Ocean Terminal where the  and the official launching ceremony took place and Azura's godmother, ballet star Darcey Bussell, smashed a bottle of champagne against the ship's hull in the time-honored fashion.

Some of the on-board features which are causing excitement are Sindhu Restaurant, the adults-only deck space, The Retreat, Olly Smith's Glasshouse wine bar and those long-awaited single cabins.

Southampton city council is also laid on a massive, free party in Mayflower Park, called "Voyage Into The Blue".  With live coverage of the events onboard, a funfair, live music and dance performances, followed by a dazzling theatrical performance, "Journey to the Edge of the World" which featured fast-paced acrobatics, humor, singing and ‘human catapults and bouncing stilts'.

The naming of Azura was shown on giant screens in the park, after which those onboard and ashore were able to admire the dazzling fireworks display that lit up the night sky as the naming ceremony concluded

Azura eventually sailed from Southampton on its maiden voyage on Monday, April 12.
