Saddam Hussein's yacht berths in Basra - will be

used as a ferry.

The Iraqi ministry of transportation has been able to retrieve from France Saddam Hussein's yacht, after 18 months of negotiation.

The yacht was built for Saddam in 1981 at a cost of $25 million. Saddam was never able to use the yacht because of the war with Iran. He donated the yacht to the Saudi royal family, which in turn donated it to the Jordanian royal family, which in turn sold it to a Moroccan company which used it to carry passengers between Morocco and France.

The yacht's top speed is 18 knots. It has 13 rooms and a presidential suite, three conference rooms, a helicopter pad, and a small submarine for escape.

The yacht will henceforth be used to ferry passengers to holy sites in Iraq from the Gulf countries.
