Royal Caribbean Announces 2010 Alaska Itineraries

Royal Caribbean International has announced its 2010 Alaska itineraries with 37 sailings for the season which include 7 to 14-night itineraries aboard Radiance of the Seas and the Rhapsody of the Seas.

Sailings will depart San Diego; Seattle; Seward, Alaska; and Vancouver, B.C., and will call at total of 13 ports, eight of which are Alaskan. Cruisetours also are available extension and travel beyond the ports into the rugged interior of Alaska.

Guests sailing on the Radiance of the Seas have a choice of 21 cruisetours, 19 of which feature journeys aboard the Wilderness Express, Royal Caribbean’s glass-domed railcars. Cruisetour highlights include stays in Denali with a tour into the National Park; tram rides from the ski slopes of Alyeska, soaring 2,300 feet up to the apex of Mount Alyeska; and stays in the historic village of Talkeetna, at the base of Mount McKinley, North America’s tallest peak, where they can participate in optional activities like jet boating and flight-seeing.

Among the shore excursions: At Icy Strait Point, guests can ride the world’s longest zip line –5,300 feet long with a 1,300-foot vertical drop. Another excursion is sailing aboard a commercial crabbing vessel in the Bering Sea.

Alternating north- and southbound seven-night itineraries between Seward and Vancouver every Friday, the Radiance of the Seas will call at four Alaskan ports: Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Icy Strait Point, the only wilderness port in Alaska. The ship also will visit Hubbard Glacier, the world’s largest advancing calving glacier.

The Radiance of the Seas also will offer two special Ultimate Alaska itineraries: a 13-night San Diego-to-Vancouver cruise departing May 8, featuring a call at Nanaimo, B.C., last visited by a Royal Caribbean ship in May 2007, and a 14-night sailing in the reverse direction departing Sept. 10.

The Rhapsody of the Seas will offer a seven-night roundtrip itinerary from Seattle and ply the Inside Passage with calls at Juneau and Skagway, as well as at Victoria, B.C. Highlights will include a cruise through the 32-mile Tracy Arm Fjord and visits to Sawyer Glacier.
